Who are we?

Fernwood Community Church (FCC) was planted in 2018 by Newark Evangelical Church. In July 2026, we celebrated to have become an independent church, though we maintain bonds of friendship and partnership with Newark Evangelical Church and other churches. We are an Evangelical church, meaning that we believe the Bible to be God’s authoritative, sufficient and inerrant Word, and seek to live according to it in everything.

We’re a group of Christians from many different ages and backgrounds, and several nationalities. We share our love for God and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who has brought us together into this local church. We’d love to get to know you too!

We are part of and supported by the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC), a network of churches across the UK.

Leadership

Fernwood Community Church is led by a team of three elders, who are supported by a group of five deacons.

Our elders are Klaas-Jan Gunnink (full-time pastor), Carl, and Drew.

When & where do we meet?

We meet every Sunday morning at 10:30am in Fernwood Village Hall. Right next to the hall is a large, free car park; you can find more details here. Our service is also available on YouTube, for those who wish to join remotely, contact us if you would like to watch live on YouTube.

We also meet at 6pm on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month at Fernwood Village Hall and on the 1st Sunday evening of the month we join with Newark Evangelical Church at 6pm at their town centre building.

We are a friendly, welcoming bunch and we would love to see you sometime!

What do we believe?

We accept only the Bible as authoritative in matters of faith and conduct. However, acknowledging that the Bible is a large book, and that its teaching on many subjects is spread across many of its parts, we recognise that it can be convenient to adopt a summary statement of what we believe the Bible teaches on a range of vital themes. You can read more about this in our Statement of Faith.
